What our Experts Think
  • Purpose‑built man‑overboard smoke signal
The 15‑Minute Buoysmoke w/ Bracket (USCG) is a daytime distress marker designed to attach to a lifebuoy and produce dense orange smoke for 15 minutes, dramatically improving visibility for search and rescue during MOB emergencies.
  • USCG‑approved reliability
This buoysmoke signal carries United States Coast Guard approval, meaning it meets stringent maritime safety standards for signaling equipment on vessels flagged in the U.S.—a key compliance point for commercial and regulated boats.
  • Essential for daytime rescue marking
Intended specifically for daytime use, it helps rescuers quickly locate a man overboard by emitting visible smoke that stands out against the sea surface.
  • Easy mounting with included bracket
The steel bracket lets you install the unit on bridge wings or railings—one per side—so the signal is ready for immediate automatic or manual deployment when a lifebuoy is released.
  • Automatic or manual activation
It automatically ignites when the attached lifebuoy hits the water but also allows manual deployment, giving added flexibility in emergency scenarios.
  • High‑altitude and high‑freeboard capable
Can be mounted up to 60 m above sea level (higher than standard SOLAS requirements), making it suitable for vessels with tall superstructures.

Maintenance Tips
  • Check expiry & certification: Pyrotechnic signals generally have strict expiration dates—verify the marker is within its usable date and compliant with USCG approval.
  • Inspect bracket & mount: Ensure the stainless steel bracket is secure, free of corrosion, and positioned for unobstructed release overboard.
  • Store dry at ambient temperature: Keep the unit in its original box or a dry accessible locker away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight to preserve smoke composition.
  • Avoid impacts & rough handling: Smoking signals contain pyrotechnic material; avoid dropping or denting the canister.
  • Follow regulatory disposal: When expired or damaged, dispose through approved hazardous waste channels per local maritime regulations.
  • Verify mount position: Commonly mounted on each bridge wing with a lifebuoy attached; ensure the lifebuoy line and quick release are unobstructed.
  • Crew familiarization: Train crew on how the device auto‑deploys (lifebuoy release) and how to manually activate it in a man overboard scenario.
